Saab/Nespresso Concept

Created in 2010, Saab sponsored a project aimed at developing a new vehicle from a non-automotive brand. In this case design student Eric Leong chose Nespresso, a company owned by Swiss Nestlé Group that sells premium espresso machines and capsules for use at home. The Concept features an original body style that mixes the characteristics of a coupé, a hatchback and a pick-up, featuring two small rear-doors and a rear loading area. The general design language is easily recognizable as a Saab, featuring aviation-inspired elements, a wraparound DLO, the ‘hockey stick’ C-pillar and a descending, linear roofline reminiscent of the 9-X BioHybrid Concept.Taking inspiration from Nespresso’s clever and green solutions, the designer has also introduced new stylish features that enhance the user’s experience. These include a rear end that integrates a flexible, dual storage compartment and top deck panels that can be replaced by cushions to create an open-air, social environment. The rims can change their appearance thanks to a digital projection system.
The roof of the car is covered with solar panels which help power the owner’s house when the car is parked.
